Oldest Woman in the US Passes away at 115
Elizabeth Francis, known as the "Queen Elizabeth of Houston," passed away this week at 115, making her the oldest person in the U.S. and third oldest worldwide. Born in 1909, Francis witnessed significant historical events and challenges, including two world wars and the civil rights movement. A devout Christian, she credited her long life to faith, staying smoke- and alcohol-free, and God's protection.
Her life was marked by caregiving; she raised her daughter, Dorothy, as a single mother, and later cared for siblings and her father. At 90, Francis moved in with her family, where she lived until her peaceful passing. Francis, remembered for her kindness and devotion, celebrated her life with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her favorite Bible verse was 1 John 4:8, "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."
Her family will celebrate her life in early November at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, choosing joy over sadness to honor her enduring legacy.
